| EXPORTS
|
Currently Solomon Island exports very limited number of products. Some of these are Timber, Fish, Copra, Cocoa. The country has a lot more to offer but faces some of pressing issues like freight costs, shipment frequency, export compliance standards and certification, access to capital, market information, etc which has been some of the major obstacles to our development and progress.
SMEC is working with government organisations, regional institutions, donor agencies and private businesses, both overseas and locally to explore the export potentials. We are taking an independent and a focused approach to tackling the challenges in partnership with the stake holders. Our objective is to make trading in Solomon Islands easier for our citizens by providing a one stop shop for all trading related activities.
We invite stake holders and interested parties to contact us to discuss opportunities and ways to expedite the process.

| IMPORTING
|
SMEC has formed strategic alliance with overseas trading companies for consolidation of orders and shipments to Solomon Islands. This arrangment is primarily to provide means to entrepreneurs to directly order goods in small quantities and facilitate the sharing of freight costs. The arrangement offers other benefits like lower prices through volume purchases.
We are currently in the process of developing a very comprehensive on-line trading system which will link major supplierers and exporters through our web site. The members will be able to utilise off-shore promotions and other related activities.
We encourage members to effectively utilise these services as it will provide them with bigger product range, reduce communication costs, open up markets, help build organisation profile and most important of all increase profitability.
